People frequently feel overwhelmed by the speed and
complexity of modern life. Whether it is the chaos that
presents itself in the nightly news or the seemingly unending
rat-race that makes up our daily existence, many people find
themselves longing for something more simple, more
centered, and, perhaps, more real in the way they lead their
lives. However, it isn't as easy as merely crossing one's arms
and refusing to play. Nor is it a matter of one-size fits all as
to what is an appropriate path to a universal Aristotelian
ideal of Simplicity.
In beginning this blog, I hope to explore various ways to
increase simplicity in life. This could take the form of how
one establishes relationships, whether with individuals,
nature, money, businesses or spirituality. It could involve
how one addresses simple daily tasks or actions in the world
at large. Or it could involve how one furnishes one's internal
attitudes. It will, however be limited to my own experiments
in areas that seem useful to me in my life. I don't pretend
to have a recipe for anyone else.
In general terms, I feel drawn to small steps that help me to
snip the apron strings of corporate consumerism, that reduce
my footprint on the Earth and to ease my interactions with
other people. So, I will share those steps I take along the
path, the various benefits that I discover and how to do it,
should anyone else care to. I will start out small and see
where this leads.
